Thank you, DanLives. I do not know anyone who has been convicted but I sure know of men falsely accused. It's scary. It's about the worse thing that can happen to a man and if you stand up for them (which I have done and will do again), you are completely vilified until the end of time.
Sometimes there is no justice, it just is.
I know a woman who in the past few years has changed her description of sex she had while in college to "rape". Ugh. She's like, "you know, what happened, now that I think of it, that was rape because I said 'no'". But she went on a date, went into the guy's hotel room and laid down on the bed "to rest", and he started fooling around. Why would you lay down on a guy's bed, knowing the possibility that he was going to interpret that as willing to see what develops? Sorry, too disingenuous for me. Go the hell home to "rest".
If you are rich or famous at all, wow, what a risk you are taking going with any woman you haven't done a background check on. And can you imagine some girl gets it into her head to get back at your son in college by accusing him? Scary.
Yes, I have known of several individuals falsely accused of rape. One guy was charged with rape, even though the woman was consenting to sex, because he didn't use a condom - which she was requesting. I think the timing of the request was at issue.
Cases involving minors are always more problematic - no one wants to think a child would lie, but for a myriad of reasons they do on occasion. And its one of those crimes that is hard to prove you didn't do it - even though you are allegedly innocent until proven guilty.
Drunk college kids claiming rape are also very "sticky". She's drunk, he's drunk, they've been hanging all over each other half the night - then someone wakes up and rolls over and doesn't like who they see---
Okay, so what is the consensus here? It rarely happens? It happens to some degree of frequency but no one talks about it.
What do you think if a woman or a girl claims they've been raped - there is no evidence and the man is squeaky clean? Who could you tend to believe and why?
I don't know anyone.
I think I would believe the man if the woman had a history of lying. But it's hard to say. I'd really need to look case by case and examine both sides.
It's pretty sickening though because that stigma always stays with the guys (or woman? if a woman is accused)
