Understanding the Nodes

The Nodes are proving a challenge to understand!

Is the north node the direction we need to be going in and developing? And the south node the place where we have already been and need to leave behind?

I heard that we should try to move away from our south nodes, because we already mastered traits represented there.

But I’m wondering what happens with charts where lots of planets occupy the house and sign of the south node.

If the sun moon and mercury are hanging around the south node, wouldn’t it be awkward to try to ignore this area?

Thanks to anyone with ideas on this!

From what I've heard, yeah, that's vaguely true. The north node is generally the direction we should be heading next. The sign on the north node's where we're hungry for new experiences. It's supposedly what we haven't experienced a lot of yet. The south node is a general description of our soul's pasts, I think.

However, the south node indicates memories and learned skills that might be helpful as well as old habits that need to be shed. As I understand it we're not going to completely leave those kinds of things behind in this life.

Think about a snake. The snake's going in the head's direction, but it can't leave its own tail behind.

Planets conjunct the south node seem to indicate that you've had a lot of experience with working with those energies in the long past.

I have trines and sextiles to my NN.

Which means I have sextiles and trines to my SN.

For me, finding the path to my NN is utilizing the path from the SN.

North node in Virgo.

An enhancement.

Metaphysics are helpful.

South node in Pisces.

Stellium in Capricorn conjures the Janus in me.

Eyes forward and back...

I think there is more to this phenomenon as you intuit.  Having to make use of the past in a deep way in the present?

My nodes' conversation.

My South Node in Capricorn: Make plans, discipline! Lose weight! On guard and attention!

My North Node in Cancer: Nah dog, there's this big plate of nachos, I'm going over there!

Thanks! This has really helped my understanding.

It seems like the south node can really compliment the north.

Maybe people who have personal planets near the south need to use their ancient skills more to achieve their north node purposes?
