It's a fascinating topic I admit - with a loaded 8th (Moon, Mars, Saturn and Pluto), I can't help but be fascinated. I myself have my 8th house ruler in my 12th though (and my 12th house ruler in my 8th), and I'd never heard that the former could suggest dying early. I do hope in my case having Saturn in my 8th will prevent this, but there are definitely major ethical implications in trying to predict this kind of thing for others.
One thing I will say with regard to the 8th house - and it is scarily uncanny - is that Robin Williams suicide and manner of death is strongly suggested by his 8th house placements. I remember reading an analysis of it and feeling a little uncomfortable by how detailed it was in accuracy, according to the planets he had in his 8th and the sign on the cusp...

It's a tricky subject...

Yes! I did a bit of research on his death myself. I too have my 8th house lord in the 12th. What is yours by the way? How old are you?

I'm 33 and hoping for many more years ahead! My 8th house ruler is Venus (my 8th house stellium is also in libra) and Venus is in Aquarius in my 12th with no particularly bad aspects. My 12th house ruler is Saturn which is retrograde in my 8th and conjunct Pluto.

I'm really glad you brought up this topic. I've been reading quite a bit about ancient astrology lately, particularly Hellenistic astrology and apparently it was standard practice for them to determine a client's "Length of Life" before doing any reading for them. Because if the client was to drop dead the next day, what was the point of giving them a reading? It would save them a lot of time, given that they didn't have computers to help them.

The technique Ptolemy used was called the "Length of Life" technique and it was VERY complex (compared to our modern methods of prediction). It has to do with finding the 2 planets in the chart that act as the Hyleg ("giver of life") and the Alcoccoden. There's a set of criteria used to determine what these planets are. You should know where your Part of Fortune is, and be familiar with Ptolemy's essential dignities.

I think most modern Hellenistic astrologers still find it unethical to tell a client how long they're expected to live, and they agree that the method is so complex that it leaves a lot of room for error. But its still pretty cool that such a technique was commonly used at one point.

Here's some links with more info:

I just want to know how you guys feel about one's planetary placements/aspects and how they contribute to their C.O.D.

For example, individuals with their 8th house lord in the 12th seem to have shortened lives (die young). Tons of celebrities that have "gone out with bang" have this one.

what, really?cryfrown

my 8 house lord is venus.... death by chocolate?

despite my morbid curiosity (8th house gemini moon) even if it could be possible to know this way, i'd rather not.

My ruler is Venus as well. It sits in my 5th and is squared by Pluto. I'll prolly die from being a diabetic barfly with STDs or something. Hehe. But at least it will be fun!

This topic fascinates me. I have looked at the charts of murder victims and many times Uranus and Mars are in bad aspects to the person's natal Mars, Uranus, Saturn or Pluto. I have always heard that it is dangerous when these planets clash. Which reminds me of how things are going now in the world. Uranus has been hitting Pluto and wowee! things have been utterly intense!

I was reading a while ago about the lord of the 8th house in the houses and it works for both the Placidus, Koch, and Equal charts. With Placidus my lord of the 8th is Venus and it is in my 9th house. With the others, the lord of the 8th is Mercury and it is in my 7th house. But I am more worried about Pluto in Capricorn squaring my Uranus (chart ruler) and Pluto is knocking on the door of my 12 house. I have had some real horror stories about this transit. Brr! And lately, I have found out some bad health news that seems to fit with the Pluto transit to the 12th. Capricorn overlays my 11th and 12th houses and I have lost friends and now I can feel him moving closer to that 12th cusp. I think I need therapy. eekkissplutouranuseek_gifblackeye_gif

I have always had a thing with death. I call it death-radar because I get warnings before people die. And I have seen the Grim Reaper on several occasions as well. Once in 1991, I was sitting outside in bright daylight listening to Engima and I glanced up and saw a black cloaked reaper figure standing on our walk bridge. I could see the wrinkles in its cloak! I blinked and it was gone. Later that day, a woman whom lived up the road from us, shot and killed her husband. The next day, while I was at work, a man walked up to his ex-wife and shot her in the back of the head in the parking lot of the mall and killed her. He then went to our local motel and killed himself. And this is a small town.

In July of 2005, I was doing something and suddenly I fell to my knees in great heaving sobs and felt a massive loss of life to the south of me. Also around that time, I had a lot of atomic bomb synchronicities happen one evening. When I opened a book from the library, Oppenheimer was on the page and he is the inventor of the A-bomb. I turned the TV on and there was The Sum of All Fears about an A-bomb going of in MD. I opened the phone book and there was the page about terror attacks; I had woke up with a dream that I had had in the 1980's about Arabs detonating an A-bomb close by. I turned CNN on and Anderson Cooper was talking about the Atom bomb. I just turned the TV off and then, my husband was helping our funeral director friend and he came home and told me that he and our friend was talking about the Garbage Pail Kid Adam Bomb and that the grave of the man could have been a bomb shelter. I just knew something horrible was about to happen. In August 2005, hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the news likened it to an A-bomb going off.

Things like this have happened all of my life. Back in October of 2001, while at work, I burst into tears and knew without a doubt that someone close to the older lady that worked there would die. Fast forward to July 12, 2002, a woman that used to work there came in to do her laundry and her boyfriend wanted to show her something. He shot her to death and then shot himself. He lived but she didn't. And she was like a daughter to the older lady that worked there.

I have journals of all the premonitions and warnings and the results that have happened throughout my life. At one time, I was going to become a Funeral Director, but decided against it. Death is a constant around me.

Another thing, in 2006, the neighbor's dogs started howling and I told my husband that there would be a death. He made jokes about it, but the first to die was the mother of the man who owned the dogs. After all was said and done, over 50+ people that I knew or knew of died in 2006.

There is so very much more but I will save that for another time.
