My sister has this aspect and has learning difficulties.

Do you think Algol plays a part or Pluto?

I have studied Algol and it is a pretty nasty place to have planets or aspects. I have Saturn conjunct it.

Algol or Medusa's head has been prominent in many of the world's worst wars, etc. Mercury conjunct it could show learning problems or losing one's head/mind.

I think the learning difficulties have more to do with Mercury in Taurus (slow thinking...but it can have strengths in Taurean matters!) and Pluto retrograde in Sagittarius (the desire to do things faster than a classroom pace).

As for Algol, according to darkstar astrology, it can add a compulsive, obsessive dimension to one's thinking.

I did look up Algol on the web, and man, the descriptions can be really negative.

However, with the "stories from the stars" section of Astrodienst, I actually have a pretty positive description of Algol in my case. It explains why I get so passionate and alive when I feel like there is a crisis to tackle, and apparently, I have to experience moments of melancholy to be equipped to help others...In my case, Algol trines my Sun, but inconjuncts my Saturn and Uranus.

It depends on the extent of the learning difficulties. I have this exact same aspect (to the degree) with the Pluto opposition as well. I never had learning difficulties when I was learning things I was interested in. For instance my teachers in primary school for subjects I liked would tell my parents I was highly intelligent and actually wanted to move me up classes yet my parents would hear the opposite from the teachers of the subjects I had no interest in learning. Learning became very hard when I was not passionate about what I was learning. By the end of year 8 I stopped going to school all together because mum couldn’t get me there. I was sick of feeling stupid for not learning/remembering things when I knew I was smart. I don’t know how to properly explain it but forcing myself to learn things I was dispassionate about literally made my body feel like it was fighting an electric current under my skin and made it impossible to concerntrate. So I stayed at home and taught myself about things I was passionate about ie; astrology, psychology, stocks, spirituality. I take on an obsessive quality when I am passionate about learning something which far excels most other peoples capabilities. It’s all in the system. School isn’t a one size fits all. We are all built differently.
I just had a second look at the chart you put up and I was born in may 1996 so our charts are actually very similar
