I am bipolar 1 and ADHD, in  my 20s no career but super ambitious.
In a nutshell , right now, I am:

Most of my inner planets are in 12th (Libra). I make my own needs very repressed for other people, without realizing it. Self delusion in order to make things OK and Easy.

Treating my illness is also a fight with my MOM (My moon conj lilith) for the better-- my aquarian mom (maybe not yours) actually knows EVERYTHING. This life has been her teaching me to chill, know myself and be like a zen baby boomer. lebowskian.
Mental illness is so much about your support systems. I have an empty 11th and 7th. Its been family all the way for me. 

Jupiter is square Pluto + Scoprio ASC.
Explosive. I have learned to aim my anger at objects like art and not me or other people.
I get rage fits, and used to collapse as a child in psychotic tantrum. 

Jupiter is exact quincunx Neptune,
which is astrology for crazy person.
 I am very dramatic and reach myopic philosophical conclusions which i must CONSTANTLY step back and analyse before I act. 

And that afflicted Jupiter is a Leo MC Jupiter.
So I play music and love theatre. Its been a wonderful outlet for my crazy side.
I love Nina Simone. I watch old movie from golden era of broadway. I do impersonations of people well.

Also my 12th hs Sun and ASC are square my Nodes.
I meet society as a whole and life on earth quite arseways on a regular basis.
I have trouble in social environments and trouble staying employed,
 relating to personal health and depression.
My identity in this life is very related to mental illness.

So I do OK as an artist.

**Lastly I will add my super long reincarnation tangeant on mental illness and military personae, for those of us who like reincarnation astrology:**

I am highly sure that people who have been heavily "martian" or plutonian types in past lives, (butchers, warlords and mercenaries and emperors) reach enlightenment by making fabulous artists later on in cycles, when they learn to direct bloodlust and thirst for power (which boils very instinctively) into cathartic creativity with material and physical things, as opposed to brutal carnage.

Mental illness, in my experience is a result of deep anger and violent (or simply "quick", mercurial) feelings turned ... Really "over heats" the circuits in you and you go haywire, like a piece of electronic equipment --
Can feel like jolts of Uranian, Pluto, Mars, contacting malefics.  
Basically -- Explosive, Tempestuous people ... make great military people!
They love war and get off on that as an outlet.  
And then people who can suspend empathy can make great surgeons or worse etc. maybe you see where this is going.

After years of research, astrology and a channeling session, It sounds like I have been a male, and criminal, powerful.
(I have scorpio rising, Pluto in 1st, Mars in 8th, South Node Leo in 9th) 
It has been a hell of party, and from a NN Aquarius perspective, pretty disgusting, time to stop.  

In this life, I am a strange young woman of mixed heritage, mentally and physically sick a lot,
and probably doesnt have the body type or stamina much for children. (empty 5th, Sun in fall, Afflicted mars in 8th-Moon opposition) 

Id like the world to become my children if I could, and people who are trapped (eg institutionalised people) are very attractive to me (Moon in 2nd trine Leo Jupiter 9th + MC, ven merc sun 12th). I have a great bravado streak.

I really "get" dynamic, loopy original people like richard simmonds or dolly parton, or pee wee herman.
They are just so wierd and happy and come from nowhere, motivational fun people with a shtick.
This is a great place for displaced mars energy which can sublimate to mental illness-- you must make it work, creativity is a spark that comes from misalignment right.. whatever.

So in matters mental health-- I believe that mars is VERY important in this picture, and its our destructive energy, and it is the part of us that must be "caught" and institutionalized before something violent happens,-- its not all Neptune.

So maybe look to mars.
I also have Mercury cazimi sun in 12th, which can mean "mental debilitation" or super genius.

I feel like I am in a cell but I am so happy here because everywhere else is so noisy and I cant focus.
