Well, me, not really. I tend to attract air or fire signs. 
Here's the thing though. My (earth) Pluto ascendant is in an out of sign stellium with Jupiter and Uranus in Libra, so that adds a few facets to the mask. That and a tight sextile to a Cancer sun maybe softens it up. I very, very rarely have someone dislike me out of the box. That's a lot of goulash in the first house so maybe it's easier to just see my air Venus and fire Mars and try for sexytimes that way.
Really I think people see what they want to see out of me. It wouldn't be the first time someone called me a chameleon.
I have Pluto in Leo within two degrees of an exact conjunction with my Leo ascendant. It is the strongest and most well-aspected planet in my chart. Pluto is involved with a Grand Trine with Venus in Aries, and with my Sag Moon in the 4th house. The Sag moon gives me a good sense of humor along with abilities in Science and Philosophy. Venus in Aries, as part of this Grand Trine is like Tarzan slashing through the jungle undergrowth, destroying old and obsolete ideas, allowing my Pluto to regenerate me, like the Phoenix, toward the future. I probably confuse people until they get to know me. I am not your typical superficial Gemini, although I am like a butterfly in more ways than one!
I don't count mine as a conjunction, but I have it in the first house 10 degrees from my ascendant. I don't know how much it shows or not to others... but I agree that it's a great survival aspect, especially being in it's natural sign.
I didn't have a fun or easy childhood for the most part, but it's one of those things where it really did make me who I am today. It helped me discover that I am much stronger than I ever realized.. I think this aspect is a testament to tremendous inner strenght!
It's not always pretty though, especially being in scorpio.. it's kind of like being destined to see a lot of the 'ugly' life has to offer. I don't know if there is any escaping that, but you're probably more than strong enough for it.
