Do you have any experience with acupuncture?  I only have fake experience with it.

Back when I was in my early 20's, they were putting beads in people's ears (acupressure, it was called), so they could quit smoking.

Didn't work!

But I wonder if anyone has firsthand experience with this. Thanks!

Hi, Elsa,

A colleague of mine at work developed alpha-gal syndrome (allergy to meat/dairy products) after a tick bite.  She literally could hardly eat anything and was wasting away.  Out of desperation and through her own research, she learned that some folks with same condition had successfully overcome it through accupuncture.

She found a local accupuncturist, who placed a small needle in her ear cartilage that she wore for two weeks.  It worked!  She can now eat all of the things that she used to.  Apparently it tricks the body somehow into not recognizing the mammal products as an allergen or something.

That was six months ago and she is still chowing down! 🙂

@willow

Thanks for this.

I have developed alpha-gal allergy. It took 3 years for me to figure it out and ask my doctor for the appropriate IgE test. My IgE titer is checked every 6 months. Even though it's always been low, I still had the GI symptoms. On the last test, my titer was low enough to attempt some dairy. So far I can eat pancakes without any distress.

Me! It worked! I don't know why I stopped doing it. I think it was because the person was so far away (in drive time)

One of my dogs received acupuncture every two weeks back in the 90s.  It helped alleviate her kidney failure for about 6 months.

Yes. For a badly sprained ankle, (a badminton accident) I needed to get back on the ice quickly for coaching. I loved it. The first session felt like a bolt of electricity went through my whole body.
I wish my insurance covered it. I would go all the time.
