I have been inundated with this type content for weeks.  I've seen at least 100 posts like this in the last several weeks.

I am also seeing posts from people, usually women, who beat cancer.

Considering how sophisticated algorithms are, and understanding I don't have cancer or a drinking problem, why  might I be seeing this content, constantly?

Just to round this out, I also see astrology content and beginning yesterday - very disturbing video stuff... not "truthers", but the raw video / pictures.

I know why I would be seeing the last two groups of post but can anyone guess what's up with this other?

sober

See?

Maybe it’s related to the addiction and inversion post? Possibly the journal article you linked generated lots of traffic that now associates you and addiction?

   I searched “cancer” on the forum, and see a few posts in the last month discussing cancer (as in the disease, not astrology) plus you recently had a consult with a cancer-survivor, could be some device picked up on that? Sometimes what drives these algorithms is a mystery, they are constantly learning and trying to refine themselves so can sometimes “cluster” or associate information in weird ways.  It can also be that someone paid for a marketing campaign and they are just pushing it as much as possible, like we just had sober October.

@nick_c thank you!  I guess I thought of that, but I do not engage with the things offered and this is persisting and hardcore.  It's a slow-ass algorithm, is what I'm trying to say. 1992 speed or something.:)

I would bet it's just meant to target your demographic. Like, women between age x and y, who bought item a, at location b. Maybe it's not slow, but someone paying a fee to push the content for a period of time to get gauge interest from that demographic. I don't know.

See! I have not seen anything like this, since 500 fake men with military backgrounds wanted to be my friend on facebook circa 2010 or so!

@elsa Neptune midheaven strikes again Smile

if it was meta I wouldn’t be surprised if they took the algorithm offline just to make sure you only see ‘safe’ non-political content so they cannot be fingered in any election interference. In that case your feed would have to be filled with manually approved stuff hence it would be very repetitive.

I’m not sure if the same applies for X, but I do know they are being dumped/boycotted by a lot of the big advertisers and tech companies so there may just be a smaller set of content/ads to show you, with a cruder set of analytics.  Also X has been very buggy since they fired a ton of their staff, it might just be technical issues on their end or they are tweaking algorithms or rolling out AI which is still very glitchy.

@nick_c thank you. I wish I knew how to stop it. It's bot content. I guess I may benefit when it drives me off the platform.

@elsa if you mute or

block does another one just pop up?

you might also be able to remove it as a topic you are interested in under settings and privacy, but I found if I deselect too many it doesn’t save my preferences.
