I have a client who is a little shy. She was dx'ed with "complex PTSD" by her long time therapist. I have never heard of this.

She wants to know if any of you have heard of it and whatever else you might be able to tell her.

complex PTSD is from long-term trauma... making it complex because it's not from one singular event that one can pinpoint

@elsa it is common experience for abuse survivors since abuse is of course, complex.

emotional dysregulation because of a fight or flight reaction within the body & vice vs. physically reacting abnormally because of the emotional response being out of balance... like heart racing amid non-threatening situations... feeling like the rug is always being pulled out, lack of trust in self and others, turbulent relationships/trauma bonds are often symptoms of complex PTSD.

True, I was diagnosed with it as well. Because there were multiple things that brought me into that state. I’m undergoing IFS now, internal family systems therapy and it’s quite interesting. Difficult but it helps identify the PTSD.

PTSD is like brain changes from the war thats over. the car wreck.

CPTSD is the brain changes from being with a narcissist, borderline or psychopath. Stockholm syndrome. Gotta heal the brain and nervous system.
