This is interesting and I think, very helpful in demonstrating how easy it is to mess a person up.

I think we need to get over our delusion of being invulnerable to things like this.

It’s happening on purpose to create a group that it will feed into the system. It’s nuts but also I will heed this warning because it’s not always easy to be clearheaded about where a person is at in the midst of it.

Learned helplessness is such a sad but true theory. I think worldwide events since 2020 have made people particularly vulnerable. Feeling powerless in such times may have contributed to some people acquiring an external locus of control. Combined with hardship/setbacks and personal disappointments, I think the stats on people experiencing learned helplessness in the present time would be high.

Wow.  I wonder if any of the "confused" students looked around enough to notice all the raised hands were on only one side of the room.

What are the best ways to be on guard to combat this? Believe we can do whatever we set our mind to, regardless of previous failures? Is this what Saturn/Neptune in Aries is going to help us master?

@tbb This is such a good question. I think it comes down to reframing our disappointments/ failures in a more objective/ optimistic way. During the course of our lives we may also go through what feels like periods of bad luck. We need to recognise that the tide does turn, and such times are temporary. Also, sometimes we need to develop goals that are perhaps more realistic. We will likely be able to achieve them, and this will help rebuild our self efficacy and optimism. Combating learned helplessness is usually achieved through CBT, so it’s very much related to maintaining a positive state of mind.

@hades-moon thank you, I think this is solid advice to live by. I also see how it can feel demoralizing when the game is rigged.

@tbb Yes, it’s unfair and disheartening.
