“Never, ever go near power. Don’t become friends with anyone who has real power. It’s dangerous.”
                        ― Stanley Kubrick

Do you agree?

Oooo…

I’m trying to imagine knowing someone with power. My immediate thought is someone with world power. But then I thought it could mean someone who might have some sort of power over you such as, they control your income, your contacts, they have secrets on you and you’re fearful they will tell others: in other words, you have allowed them to have power over you for some reason. Or you’re in a situation where you cannot disengage from that power or don’t know how.

🤔

@allie120 this is pure speculation,  but what if he did what he did and regretted it? Like a lot. He wants to come clean, but can't due to his powerful "friends".

@elsa There’s so much of that.

I think Kubrick moved to England to try to break with Hollywood.

@allie120 I hadn't heard that. But I can imagine being part of something; I might have misunderstood, or even understood in the moment, but not imagined to consequences over time?

Then winding up, wracked with guilt and remorse and not being able to make it right.

@elsa I see what you’re saying. I don’t know, actually.

I did read he had some differences or difficulties working in Hollywood and with Kirk Douglas after Spartacus and he moved to England. I suspect there has to be more to it but I don’t know.

I think there’s some truth in the theory that power corrupts. No doubt, some people could manage increased power better than others.
