@allie120 Exactly.

I see everyone on this thread, lovin' it.  People here, not so much!

The grocery stores and banks all have short hours, etc.

@elsa Yeah that’s really bad for you all down there! Hope it warms up soon!

I know a lot of the country has been freezing, blizzard, polar vortex but I haven’t really watched it, except hearing about it by way of Iowa caucus.

It’s 18 here. I don’t know what the low was. It’s sunny. It ended up snowing a little last night after all. There is a crunchy layer of snow on the deck. I opened the door and let Pixie go out. She walked some on the deck, licking her paws occasionally but she liked it. I went out and the snow was so crunchy and loud she was afraid and started to go towards the stairs 😦. I’ve not had her out without her harness. So I stopped and reached to pet her, then scooped her up!

We will have to try it with the harness. She’s pretty fast!

@allie120 I think we thaw out tomorrow. There is another deep dip, a few days from now.

Several kids were killed in a school bus accident about a dozen years ago.  These are small towns... no one has forgotten, so it tends to shut down here, if there is any doubt.

It's not been as bad as I expected in that we've only lost power for short periods.

@elsa Good to hear about your power staying on more frequently.

That’s horrible about those kids. I can understand how the towns would be cautious, especially not getting that kind of weather all the time.

@allie120 Yes, every time the weather intensifies, the people here are triggered. They simply take no chances. To me it's understandable. They don't have the equipment here and the roads aren't suited for ice at all.

@elsa I can 100% understand that for places like where you live, the south, etc.

But I am seeing it even up north and my hometown where I grew up with winters of 300” of snow. This is a separate topic entirely from towns and regions where it doesn’t make sense financially to keep snow plows and road treatment reserves. There is an addiction to panic, potential fear, alarm. This is in no way to say people shouldn’t be careful or to be thankful for advances in meteorology and protection. It’s just … well, like many things now.

I don’t laugh when the south rolls up its sidewalks when it snows or gets freezing weather. They aren’t set up for it.
