"Women wear heels to signal their preferred male height."

Smart, arrogant, Russian dude says this. My mind tried to refute it, but couldn't.

Think it's true?

Maybe it’s a cultural thing. I certainly have not seen this, but maybe it exists in other countries.
Most women I know of just wear whatever shoes are flattering.

It’s fun to know what others may do though.

Since I am a tall woman (1,76 m) I never used to wear heels at all, it made me feel un-feminine, but now I wear them once in a while (and when I'm talking heels I mean around 5-8 cm, ha ha, so not stilettos). I only wear them when I feel good and then it's kinda nice to be able to really stretch your back and feel tall and looking down on people (in a physical way, not mentally). My ex was tall so I could have worn them even then, but I didn't like to stand out too much. It was nice though to have a tall man, but I would have chosen him anyway had he been shorter than me. I too think it's cultural. I guess I wanted to say that when you take your space it can actually feel empowering when men are shorter and I can see that in women nowadays, but it didn't use to be like that due to old ideals - men should always be taller than women.

I was one of those girls who was much taller than the others. Like way taller. “Are you a basketball player?” “Are you going to be a basketball player?” I would just think, what

I had a friend tell me, this was elementary school probably 4th/5th grade, “My dad says men don’t like tall women.”

That just killed me. I couldn’t do anything about my height. I probably just said something like, that’s not true or I don’t care.

Anyway, I’m just a regular 5’6”.

As for the heels, I thought it was more of a sexual imitation. I don’t know about that anymore because don’t women just dress for other women, subconsciously? Maybe not as we get older and dress for comfort, whether that is actual physical comfort or comfort in dressing what one deems appropriate (comfort, meaning being to the occasion).

@allie120 I’m the exact same height as you and encountered “ tall” remarks as well. We are of average height, but must have appeared taller because others were short.

To this day, my close female friends are shorter than me. I’ve never had a bestie that was taller than me. It’s kinda strange.

At least my partner’s taller than me.

Also, I didn’t wear heels very often. I just did it because I guess that was the fashion. Then I figured out I only felt I looked good in certain ones with certain dress. I met my husband at a Halloween party and I was dressed up like a French maid because I don’t ever plan much for Halloween. I’m pretty sure I wore something with a heel but also more platform so I could walk after some drinks. Much forethought there 😅
