When I lived in Florida, I sometimes felt that way about it.  On the surface it was 'beachy', but underneath it's dirty, dirty, dirty.

I have a theory on this.

I think this sensation is very strongly related to swamps. It is, at least, for me.  Immobile, black water not going to anywhere. Many religious beliefs around the World seem to make this connection, too, and I think I originally made this realization reading about pre-Christian believes of Mari People living at the Ural Region and still practising some shamanistic religious ways that probably were more widespread all across Eurasia.

We have large area of swamps where I'm from, I don't go anywhere near the swamps,  because I feel something there. Florida is the same. There are all those supposedly pretty residential areas with channels which I just found creepy. And sure enough, the short period I was there, there was a freak murder at one of them just 10 miles inland to where I stayed (by The Ocean, which is too big to hold that energy, so, pure and relaxing to me). Venice, Italy, has that undercurrent of evil too.

It would be interesting to know whether these areas that make Rhino uncomfortable have been swamps.

That is so funny you say that; when I was a kid, and I heard about a lot of really weird and brutal murders happening in the midwest, I thought it had something to do with water too- or the lack of ocean or far proximity to it.

The ocean or large bodies of water are very therapeutic, and I had *hypothesized* (when I was like 10, mind you) that people did these terrible killings because they were so far away from the ocean.  I think there is a lot of energy in water; it can clean, baptize, nourish.  Not a lot of elements can be used so multilaterally, you know?

The Midwest, though known for more than a few creeeepy serial killers... has A LOT of water. Minnesota is called the Land of 10,000 Lakes and Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan border the Great Lakes... which are some of the largest lakes in the world. Also, there are a lot of rivers.

My Husband starts feeling somewhat claustrophobic anytime he is more than 30 miles inland, unless there are mountains in the view. So, I can say he'd hate  most of Kansas. kiss I think this is just his psychology, though, not feeling the presence of The Evil.

I'd like to specify that when I'm talking about water, I'm speaking specifically of swamps (and maybe ponds and springs). The kind you don't even know are there, at times, before the ground breaks under your feet and you are in kneehigh water. And this can go both ways, it can be evil or good. Many holy places have springs.

Regarding Great Lakes, they are big, reaching beyond Horizon. And they deposite to Ocean, through Rivers. But there could be swampy land up there, as well. I'm thinking more in terms of Northern Canada, or Siberian Taiga. They are one, big swamp, really.

There was a Kmart by me that closed recently.  I got the worst vibes whenever I went into that store.  Same with a Wal-Mart in Florida, not far from Disney, in fact.  People were swarming the overflowing liquor aisles, and...well, I got out of there as quickly as I could.

On the opposite end, I love the two towns where I work the farmer's markets.  Everything is peaceful and unique.  They're just a block or two from the Atlantic Ocean.

I spent my summers at the Jersey Shore, since my parents had a beach condo.  (They sold it in '97, and it was heavily damaged during Sandy.)  I was pulled back to the area for many years.  I'd just hop in the car, park, and walk on the beach.

Erm, I don't know if this was directed at me and if it was, I probably wasn't clear in my earlier response... but I totally agree! The Great Lakes are EXPANSIVE! I lived in Wisconsin so I was defending the Midwest... lots of moving water! Although, there have been a few very creepy serial killers... but I would blame that on six months with no sun and the freezing cold.

I don't know why my mind immediately thought of haunted places and ancient burial grounds. If I'm not mistaken Pennsylvania and Louisiana are the states with some of the highest reported hauntings. No disrespect to anybody, I think I watch too many haunting shows. :p

I agree with AriesChick on the astrocartography too. It could influence this. Where I live, the relocation chart places Lilith on my ascendant - I think I need to move! The place I have most wanted to live, even before I learned astrology, I saw places Venus on my ascendant instead. I can dream right.

Yikes. I have a progressed Scorpio Moon and can relate to feeling inexplicably freaked out by all kinds of things.

Plus, natal Pluto in the 4th house must have an effect. I remember when I was a teenager and we moved to the suburbs from the big city. I always felt much more vulnerable out there than I did living in an urban area.

I have a progressed Pisces moon. I am hypersensitive. Smells, lights, sounds, vibes. Everything hits me.
