Regarding reading the ingredients on food packaging, it only helps to some degree... because most don't know, you do not have to include an ingredient that makes up less than 2% of a product.

"The ingredient being omitted or substituted cannot be a major ingredient in the product and can make up only 2% or less of the food. Additionally, characterizing ingredients (such as raisins in raisin bread) may not be changed. The omission or substitution cannot have an impact on the overall nutrition of the product, either."

This is similar to the loophole (in the Farm Bill) that makes THC legal in states where it's not legal.

So they can put arsenic, right in there and it would be legal.

@hades-moon there are 10 teaspoons of sugar in every can of coke. People give it to their kids all day,  every day. Goodbye, teeth!

@elsa It’s shocking. I don’t know how these parents hand these drinks over. I wonder whether they a) don’t know or b) don’t care.

No wonder why diabetes type 2 is so common.

@elsa I don't think people like coffee if this is how they have to drink it every day. I put two teaspoons in my cup.

These people are hitting the nail on the head. All of it. I feel like this issue has the potential to unite America - like actually bring people together for a common cause.

@allie120 You're very welcome! Thank you for checking it out! I was extremely impressed by how well they explained all the layers of what's contributing to the lack of common sense in how our leadership addresses human health in the USA. The need to address these problems from the top down, as well as the need individuals to be honest about what they can do for themselves... is so critical, on so many levels. I'm so glad that they discuss the spiritual component as well. I think those of us who are already on health journeys can really appreciate the magnitude of what's at stake.

@allie120 I followed up with the episode of the Huberman podcast featuring Dr. Casey Means. I learned so much about metabolic health! I have to admit that my eyes usually start to glaze over when the health influencers start talking about mitochondria... but her delivery is so fantastic. Highly recommend - and the end is the best part!

I will have to find time to view the Rogan experience (sounds worthwhile!).

Just wondering if anyone could suggest a natural remedy that calms and soothes the nerves; perhaps involving adding something to a cup of tea?

@hades-moon Can you get CBD oil there? Taking some droplets helps, if you can do that.

Ashwagandha but see if you have to take that regularly to help. Check your magnesium intake. Getting the proper daily amount can help. Thongs like valerian root, lemon balm, chamomile, lavender can help but maybe check the amounts to have because they can help with sleep; maybe lesser amounts can just calm you. Valerian root smells like dirty socks, though. But it works for sleep, maybe it will just calm you with tiny amounts?

I know people here will have other ideas, too.

@allie120 When I googled CBD oil Australia, it said it is legal but with stringent regulations. My internet connection has been playing up today so I have not been able to track down further details. This, and the other products you mentioned sound worth investigating; thank you!. Yes, I must check my magnesium intake; smart thinking 🙂.

@hades-moon there are several homeopathic cell salts ( sometimes called tissue salts, there are 12 most common ones) that can help with nerves and nervousness.  It’s best to read about them to find the best fit for you.

@hades-moon glutamine helps with stress. Up to 40 grams is safe to consume. I have 5 grams in the morning mixed in my yogurt and 5 grams with a squirt of magnesium in a cup of water at night!

@bar-in-the-sky As one of the token medical workers in here, I feel obligated to note for anyone reading that glutamine can worsen seizure activity if you have epilepsy. If you do not have epilepsy you are ok.

@hades-moon My friend gave me two tinctures for calming my nervous system: st. john's wort, and milky oats. I believe they are both nervine tonics. I'm not a trained herbalist, but other nervine herbs include valerian root, skullcap, catnip, and lavender. Chamomile and lemonbalm are commonly sold in teas. I enjoy kava. Each one has different qualities, so please do your own research before ingesting (I'm sure you will)

Elsa mentioned no benefit from CBD, and that was also my experience. I actually have a theory that herbal remedies are synergistic with a vegetarian diet. I ate a vegetarian diet for about 5 minutes in my 20s, and I definitely felt more sensitive to herbs during that time. I've been an omnivore ever since - because it gives me better energy, but I don't feel the same benefits from herbs when animal products are present in my body. Anyway, for me, exercise is the best natural remedy for an imbalanced nervous system.

I do hope you find that something that helps ease the tension you are feeling.

@cocopeaches Thank you for your comprehensive response. I value hearing of you and Elsa’s personal experience with CBD oil as I have to be prepared to have a plan B if it doesn’t work for me too.

Investing in chamomile or lemon balm tea is a good suggestion. I bathe in lavender oil and find this very calming. I’ll look into the other herbs you suggested as well. Gosh, there are plenty of options which is fantastic.

Your theory about the biological response to herbal remedies possibly being greater in vegetarians is fascinating. This is another topic worthy of research.

Kudos to you for mentioning exercise!. I use to briskly walk on my treadmill daily and I stopped because of health probs, but I really think it’s time for me to jump back on it. I was a lot calmer back then, and I know exercise will get rid of my excess adrenaline/ cortisone.

Calming my nervous system needs to be approached eclectically. I have to use a variety of remedies and techniques and see what combination works for me.

Thanks again for your input. I’m not into merely googling; I love hearing from real people like I have on this thread.

Glad to spread the word on homeopathic medicines.  Hyland’s is the most commonly available brand in health food stores, their own site and some groceries like Natural Grocers and Sprouts if you have those.  Reasonably prices, gently effective, no known side effects or known allopathic drug interactions.

I tried cbd oil and noticed no change whatsoever.  So I quit taking it and still saw no change whatsoever. I must be a weirdo.

@elsa I don’t take it often, in part because I forget and at times I’m close to a meet and I think the cbd oil is ok but I’m not 100% certain (WADA - doping site regs), I can just not ingest it and it’s ok.

It does calm me, though. THC beverages are very nice but I definitely need to consume them far out from competition because it’s not approved.

(Only a small fraction of people get tested but it’s a lottery so, not worth the risk)
