Sparky is back from the dead, thank God. Vicious week, behind us now.
Wish me luck for I am going hunting!
Speaking of hunting, my husband texted me from his stand at 6:20 this morning. He said he saw a car park at the boat launch (he’s in a tree stand and with his binoculars and paraphernalia he can see in the dark somewhat). And a person with a dog got out and was walking and spotlighting down on our other property. He asked me to call the police so they would go out. It was dark out. No one has permission to go on our property except the farmer we let use it.
Dispatch was very patient with me as I gave the information as relayed from my husband via text. They said they’d sent someone around there.
At lunch he told me he talked to them and they said it was a woman with her dog. He said she was pointing the flashlight all over and even towards his direction. She wasn’t on the same piece of land he was (we have two parcels that are only adjacent at one corner). So it’s pitch black there. It’s woods and farmland and the river so a light goes far.
She said she knew [so and so, farmer, who doesn’t even farm that side of the road). So all these people “know this or that person” and they think they can just walk all over. Even though we have “No Trespassing” signs. I’m just wondering wtf a woman is doing out in the woods in the dark alone. We have coyotes, bobcats, there are sometimes bears. They could go after her dog. Maybe she’s armed. But she’s not alone out there. There is at least my husband in a tree.
Personally, I think people don’t realize property lines, no one has ever challenged them before, and my husband is kind of the new property owner but he’s not taking any shit. He’s going to have a sit down with the chief of police in town.
Most farmers are pretty lax as long as their property or crops are damaged because chasing people off is time consuming and they are trying to be high trust (that’s my take. I could be wrong).
My husband is really spooked about this kind of stuff now, considering what happened last year. He will never not be. And he is right. He is still a member of the hunting club (pheasant) but he does not ever go out with anyone anymore. He goes alone.
So, there’s that.
