I made a little movie about my meet. Well, it’s just photos and videos put together. But it was an international meet and it was cool. I didn’t include every single lift, just the top three.

@elsa Thank you! I really was/am. I can look back, look at pictures or video, or just remember, and it really was such a good time. Happy. Fulfilling. Family. Community. Support. ❤️ And it didn’t hurt that I kind of felt like a bride: center of attention at times 🤭. I like being AN IMPORTANT or SUPPORTING ACTOR. Always have 😅

Meet recap!
I’m really happy with my performance and I’m proud of my friends who put on their first meet in their gym. Great event.

My attempts below (kg/pounds), summary/post mortem, and little movie:
Squat
82.5/ 181.9 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
85.7 /192.9 ⚪️⚪️🔴
95 /209.4 ⚪️⚪️🔴

Bench
37.5 / 82.7 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
40 / 88.2 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
42.5 / 93.7 ⚪️⚪️⚪️

Deadlift
105 / 231.5 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
117 / 259 ⚪️⚪️⚪️
127.5 / 281.1 🔴⚪️🔴

Coach had more faith in my 3rd squat than I did and it was a last minute decision to go for that 95. It was a PB at a meet for me.

We decided to keep conservative on bench. These numbers are super easy but I’m not at 45 consistently. It’s ok. I’m ever optimistic for next time.

Deadlift: I really wanted to beat my own state record. Two reds for not locking my knees. I was really focused on lockong out my hips and I thought that would get me. I wasn’t thinking about my knees because they always just follow. This is something I need to be more cognizant of. But I’m coming for that number!!!! States: here I come 😈

I’m really so happy, though. And I’m happy for my friends who had a vision for their training center, for their first meet, and for all they’ve accomplished as well.

Oh, and the wild guy with the mask is Geno. He’s a world renowned announcer in the powerlifting community, so what a boon for them to get him for their inaugural meet.

@hades-moon Thank you so much! It really is a supportive and bonding experience. I met so many people and it’s so uplifting. And I tell you, there were several Masters lifters (40+ and lots of 50+) whee this was their first meet. And the young people, a couple teen girls and boys, juniors (early 20’s). Wow. Amazing strength. It was SRO in the audience for most of the meet.

@hades-moon It’s stressed that it always should be. So few people are so elite that they can earn some money off it (not enough to live unless they’re coaches) but even they have to put it in perspective.

I met a woman who was in my flight, trained there with my coaches, so we all warmed up together. She has a nine year old daughter who is really interested in starting powerlifting. She’s going to start soon because she really wants to. Sports are so good for kids.

I was never on any sports team. Not interested in the slightest. Scared. Shy. Intimidated. Hated gym class. Would have been happy to have my gym class doing some hiking haha. It seems so different nowadays. Seems all the kids are doing something.

Anyway, there are no upper age limits 🙌

@allie120 How you have described your younger self regarding school sports was the same as I was. The only time I enjoyed it was when they did a term of dance with loud music 🙂.

I agree that sport is great for kids. It’s so true what you say regarding the increase in kids nowadays doing a form of sport. I can’t think of any kid I know not doing anything. Wow, what a shift (and a positive one).

I love how inclusive powerlifting is. It’s great to hear of no upper age limits.
Generally speaking now, I don’t care to let a number (my age), dictate what I can or can’t do. I have to consider my physical condition/ailments, but I’m not going to let my mind limit me. Overall, I think we get better with age. The main difference now is we are wiser.

@hades-moon I think there are so many more organizations for kids’ sports. Or maybe it’s just my socioeconomic surroundings. There was Little League and PeeWee League for football. And lots of pick up games in the neighborhood. But kids in my circle didn’t do anything unless it was through school, the town, or they were wealthier and could afford lessons. That was my exposure.

I forgot: I did take ballet in school. It was after school. My mother put me in when, kindergarten until maybe second grade. I wanted to take tap dancing like my friends. But she said no, you already walk like an elephant through the house. (I think I was just being a kid: we were not permitted to run in the house. If we did, we had to walk back and forth in the hall X number of times as punishment). So I did the ballet, never understood the dance names, was petrified at recital.

Hence: leave me alone to walk my dog in the woods, ride my bike alone all day and explore, ride horses at my cousins. So being on a team was foreign to me. Now I see my granddaughter learning how to be a team member, how to take losses and mistakes at a young age and deal with them, sportsmanship. I didn’t dislike any of that. I just didn’t understand and was always so painfully self conscious. I think the sports takes that off you.

So I did this alone, training, my first meet alone (my husband was there). I knew the rules but didn’t know that having someone there to help was a benefit. But once there at the meet, everyone looking the same in their singlets, everyone just as nervous as everyone else, no matter if you were pulling a 400# or a 100# deadlift. And everyone cheering each other. It was great.

And now being a member of a team! No, it’s not like being a college team and most of us still train alone but we are all together and there is bonding.

@allie120  Although I did not embrace conventional sport lessons at school I was very involved in the arts; singing, drama, dance, school plays, after hour concerts etc.. This helped build my confidence and team work was a big part of it. At least 3 nights after school and sometimes weekends, I was doing lessons in singing, dancing and drama. Now that I look back there was not really time for sport. I didn’t feel it was my thing and it just felt awkward. Fortunately, because of my other interests I was not disadvantaged by not partaking in it.

I agree that there appears to be much more accessible sporting groups around now.

After hearing more about your past, it makes what you are doing now an even more incredible feat. Talk about a 360 degree transformation (great role model)!. It’s awesome what this passion has done for your soul (and, of course body). Gosh, your husband must be proud of you. Most importantly, you’d be proud of you too!. Man, your story makes me happy for you 🤗. You are one serious ass kicking power house!😎 💪🏻

@hades-moon Thank you so much! People will comment on how wonderful it is that my husband is so supportive. He had to do a presentation this week. Depending on the topic and audience, he will add a personal slide in there: something he recently did or some funny meme. He told me he added a slide of me on the podium, the group shot of all the athletes at the meet, a shot of our granddaughter at her soccer game, and an image of deer off the trail camera on our property 😂. I think it was all: what I did this weekend. I’m guessing 😂

Anyway, you mentioned arts and theater. That’s definitely teamwork! And there are so many more opportunities for kids there, too. Not just school. I remember a classmate of mine telling me she had art lessons on Saturday. It was middle school, I think. That just blew my mind. It was inconceivable. Everything seemed to have blown my mind then 😅. Never occurred to me that people just sought these things out.

@elsa It is! I was surprised and so happy! I’m grateful he will drive me then sit there all day. But at least he’s outgoing and he will talk to everyone and help out!

@allie120 Your husband’s presentation sounds a lot of fun! Beautiful that he added you and your grand daughter. Love how he had the shot of the deer 😄.

It’s such a bonus that your husband’s outgoing and he enjoys accompanying you to events. What more could you want from a fella? . Sounds like a great catch 🎣, and of course you are too! 👍

I want to go for something next year but I have to find out the details. A big goal. How to go about it officially, is it possible, then work towards it.

@allie120 I’ve been thinking along similar lines lately. I want to get out of my comfort zone and through a great achievement, receive that natural high. I feel alive when I get the adrenaline pumping (in a good way, not stressed way).

This would be a good way for us to harness Pluto’s energy. I feel there could be good opportunities for Aquarians if we put ourselves out there. I don’t want to waste this time.

I have some vague ideas but I need to solidify them. Although my goal is not sports oriented, it still involves similar steps and planning, and of course bloody hard work 😂. The personal reward is worth it, so I’m up to it.

@hades-moon I love this!!! I’m excited for us, too. tbh I was petrified about Pluto on my sun (it’s been going back and forth) + my second Saturn return happening simultaneously. Saturn has passed and our past experiences have fortified us for now, helping us to venture out of our comfort zones.

Get it!

@allie120 Exactly! It’s time now to utilise the positive Pluto power. Time for us to conquer the world 💪🏻🌎⚔️.
