Cincinnati Kid is making me want to play cards,,, it's been decades.  I asked my husband if he wanted host a game. Something to do.

He said he's too unlucky,  which he is. I used to beat him and all hus friends, as a teenager.  I do feel like playing though. Big time.

@elsa Playing cards helps keep the mind sharp. Playing bridge is especially good for the mind.

My oldest brother plays duplicate bridge 4-5 times a month at his local bridge club. He and his partner travel to regional tournaments. I know they go annually to a Knoxville tournament.

@sue-ellen I haven't had the impulse for a decade or more. Honestly, it seems the perfect way to go old-school and see people get together.  Hosting card-playing is not like an entire dinner party. Chex mix, okay? And a couple decks of cards.

There was a three year period in my 20's, my boyfriend, along with a group of friends, I hosted "games", every Saturday / Saturday night.  One weekend was horseshoes, the next was poker night.

I used to get a couple of loaves of French bread, cut them lengthwise, and make a huge sandwich, which could then be cut into chunks. Italian grinder, basically.  People bought their own drinks.

Looking back, I have always been good at this, though I had no idea.  The breadth and depth of my obliviousness knows no bounds!  We had 75% of the parties at our duplex.

I wish people were still interested in things like this. They say they are, but I don't think they are being honest with themselves.  I hate this, but I have adapted and will continue to do so, per my nature.

I have no choice. I have abundant clarity right now, around myself vs others. I know I am different. I know why and I know how. I write these things anyway, in case someone is a position to act.

@elsa

My Italian aunts and uncles had card parties on Sunday evenings with tea and pastries, and I had childhood neighbors who had canasta parties.  In the 80s we had friends who had Pictionary or Uno parties.  In LA I spent many evenings over a Scrabble or Monopoly game with a friend.  And here in FL a group of locals had a monthly two hour potluck at alternating houses.  But Covid killed that, most of us being over 60.  I'd probably still go if it was outdoors with fresh air circulating!

@warped

my Italian relatives used to play poker when we were kids too! We were too young to play but used to giggle at the silly way the dealers called the cards....”a Big ass (Ace)for Ruthie or a pair of jerks (Jacks)for Joe.

My neighbors invite my husband and I to play Skipbo, a game I just learned. It’s fun.

@jana That's great, Jana. All of it.

My family played A LOT of Hearts. The Queen of the Spades was the bitch.

"Who's got the bitch", someone would say, scanning the table for a tell.
