Our neighbor has been involved in 4H since she was a teen. She’s now retired and still involved. She gave us four tickets to the county 4H fair this weekend so we could take the granddaughters. We usually go every year but this was so nice.

We all talked to a couple of girls (about my oldest’s age) who had their goats to show. The girls loved talking about the goats and showing them. It reminded me of me when I go off on one of my passions, even at my age 😅.

Our oldest granddaughter really wanted to see the 4H members showing their goats so we watched on the bleachers. This was probably the first year she was very intent on watching, guessing which one would win, and she was really excited to watch the girl we talked to. No one is getting any farm animals yet but I loved that she watched with us because my husband and I have been known to spend at least some time on our anniversary at the fairs watching these kinds of things and we love it.

I will edit a couple pictures to post here. After the fair we got ice cream and went to our property so they could pick some pumpkins!

@soup omg yes. And she’s so slim. The youngest is so tall, too! Their dad is shorter for a guy but their grandfathers on both sides as well as their uncles are very tall.

@allie120 Those sweet girls are so beautiful. I can't believe how tall...

Scorpio moon has a job and her own car. She drives to school, and she is planning for college. I talk to her almost every day.

Hard to believe all these kids are getting so big, so fast. I was taken back by how tall, little miss Gemmie is though.... wow.

So damn cute. Just adorable.

@soup Aw! I know you miss them and these ages are so crucial even though they are gaining so much independence. But you’re there for them always, so that’s vital.

My granddaughters are so pretty and as much as I’d love to show them off, I can’t, respecting their parents’ wishes but even without that I don’t feel right. The oldest has almost delicate features and I can see her mother in her but more of her father and his mom. The youngest is a copy of her mom. The oldest is really into soccer, very caring of others, and she’s growing so in her own personality that I laugh and say, Is she 15 or what 😂? (She’s 9)

The youngest is a spitfire and loves words. She’ll just use a word beyond her 5 years. It’s wild because sometimes you can have conversations with her and you don’t have to baby down the words too much. She’ll want to know what things mean.

@allie120 Don't you have a Venus aspect with the little one, if I remember right? I know they are pretty. Not just cute, those girls are pretty. The oldest isn't that much shorter than you for 9... I just cannot believe how much she has grown.

I won't show mine anymore either. I can on FB in a way that is only shown to fam. But not otherwise. And the thing is, it is out of respect for them. They are all teens now. Youngest doesn't want social media. She refuses. Oldest has it because she is in horse clubs but its locked down. Middle has it but all of it is locked down. They say the bullies troll the SM in kid land, and they don't want the drama nor do they want pictures of themselves out there. Oldest said to me... they screen shot us and manipulate the pictures in all kinds of ways. 😳 (which scares me to death) I can't believe the things they have to navigate. Sickening. She will soon be 17. She said I have to get into college and work, I can't have some weird, manipulated pictures of me on the internet. Can you believe children have to worry about this now? Makes me ill.

That's my girl. My Scorpio moon. Aries Sun and Rising. She is fierce and intense. And she runs the show. So proud of her. She is afraid of nothing... all that mars energy 😊

@hades-moon When she gets down and everyone does at times, I say.... you are an Aries. Sun and rising. You haven't begun to understand how powerful you are yet, but you are. You can do anything. You'll see soon enough. She always laughs when I say it and says... you say that because you love me 🤣 well, that is true too. But she is a little powerhouse. That kid is on fire. Very proud of her.

@soup 😄Love it!. I think she’ll remember your words for life and they’ll stand her in good stead. Yes, she is incredibly powerful. She’s got the type of astrology that people would wish their kid to have.

She will step in and take over. Try until it's done. My son said... Mom, I am a little afraid of my daughter 🤣 🤣

@hades-moon 🤣 I just laughed when he said it. And believe me when I say... if anyone stepped toward that girl, they would get the rest of me. 😊 I had her every day from 2 weeks old till I moved. She's part of my great love story. I am so lucky to have three. All three of them with some Pluto flavored moons. I laugh and call them the three little Witches of Eastwick. Two fire signs and a 'triple Gemini double Virgo double Taurus'. They are so strong. All with a Pluto flavored moon. They are so fierce. I used to worry. I don't anymore. They are energy X10. My little Saggie lost her momma, but I don't take my heart off her for a minute. Her cousins are all over her too. They are the three musketeers. All three in High School together next year. Oh lord....

@soup it’s good that your girls are aware.

Oldest granddaughter has her mom’s old iWatch. The kids and their SO went to Paris for the Olympics (a whole year of planning!). Oldest granddaughter is really sensitive and deep down she likes /needs having her parents accessible. So it’s for family only and one friend. Her parents get all the notifications. She can voice to text or call and get pictures. It is scary but she is also, so far, the kind of kid who is aware of and following the boundaries set and also knows when something is off or not a good situation. When school starts her parents will put more parental controls on it. Anyway, it did help assuage her when they were gone, as she could be in contact but it was also exciting for her to get pictures from Paris.

Yes, the youngest’s moon and my Venus are conjunct. She acts so different when she’s apart from her sister. You can see her vying for attention and trying to be her sister’s peer. When she’s alone, she’s cuddly and she has a longer attention span. I can understand all that. She’s so sweet when she says, “Gigi? Why does [this or that, asking questions about things]?

Why do I always overlook that youngest granddaughter’s moon is conjunct my Venus so it’s also conjunct my Mercury. I am fascinated with her word perception/knowledge/curiosity.

@allie120 I remember you had that Venus moon conjunction. So sweet. I also remember pictures of you being able to hold and cuddle her. They are both just so darn adorable. So good to see pictures of those little doll babies.

All three of my girls are teenagers. The oldest two went out on Saturday night to the local homecoming. Guess who they called? Me. Can you imagine being a teenager and you are out on a Saturday night and call your grandma? LOL You know I love it though. The stuff they tell me 😳 but they know it's going in the nonjudgmental vault where no one will ever know (unless there is danger)

My middle grand is trying to navigate being motherless at a time when one needs a mom. Dances, homecomings, all things girly ... growing into a woman. I am never NOT on the phone. She is a sunny sag though and she doesn't show it to the world. She is in pain under all that though.

Being a mom is busy. It's hard work and it's a nonstop teaching gig. Being a grandmother is about as great a thing as anything I can think of. There is no other age I would rather be because if I was... I wouldn't have them. They are the three miracles in my life.

I know how much you enjoy those girls. You have every right to be so proud.

@soup I love that they called you. And especially that you’re there more than ever for the Sunny Sag. My God that poor child.

I wonder of the kids these days are more connected to the older/oldest generation? You always had a tight bond with them and our granddaughters have with us and their Nonna (daughter’s mom). And you always hope it will continue even though they grow up and move on to tween, teen, adulthood. We were close with one aunt, my grandparents had moved far away and they visited, we talked, but I didn’t talk to them like they were my close friends. We all definitely loved each other. My immediate family didn’t socialize and have holidays beyond when I was about 7 or 8.

Anyway, you have a beautiful thing and I hope we will continue to have a close relationship with ours. It seems to be built in already and we aren’t moving from this state. Edit: I mean to say that Matt has his work and foray into retirement planned out with this company and as bad as taxes and stuff are here, he won’t move.

At the 4H Fair. We did a lot that day. My husband is quite energetic and can go go (they call him GoGo) and he will indulge almost anything and have lots of activities planned and the girls love it but they get super overstimulated. Kids can’t autoregulate like adults can and he’s like a big kid. They begged to stay overnight and we were ready for bed but they wanted to go home. So we packed up and took them home. At least no one was crying and the oldest was apologizing. It’s really ok. Too much nonstop, sugar, go go go, meanwhile I’m over like, yeah

@allie120

This is wonderful!  When I was little my dad would take me to a farm where kids could feed the small animals -- goats, sheep, geese, ducks, peacocks, chickens.  We never went to any fairs, but in Scotland my neighbors brought me along to one overlooking a loch with castle ruins on an island in the center.  Vintage tractors, those beautiful golden cattle, exotic goats, sheep, crafts, food -- so much fun!

@warped I love the exposure to different animals and the people who care for them, why we do what we do, how things get done! The whole scope or little pieces of it are nuggets of interesting and maybe useful information.

@allie120 How Lovely!. It’s so important (and fun!), for kids to have joyful interactions with animals. It’s a good way to teach compassion/care; and this helps them grow to be wonderful, caring adults 🥰.

@hades-moon Completely agree!!! The girls have a family dog and when we travel they come over and take care of our cat. The oldest really wants a variety of animals and they’re going to take it one step at a time. But these are excellent lessons in responsibility and compassion, as you said.

That looks like a fun day!

I don't have much. Yesterday, my husband wanted a peanut butter and banana sandwich but he had grilled cheese, "because the dogs like it".

"They're dogs! Have what you want."

"They're my kids, P."

Well, okay. He says this all the time. How we're all a crew.

@elsa reminds me of my grandpa. He would say “gang,” as in, “ready to head out, gang?” or, “alright, gang?”

Always thought it was the cutest thing.

I can relate!  I rarely cook anything I can't share with my dog.  Yours would probably enjoy the peanut butter and bananas just as much as the grilled cheese!

@elsa I relate. Our cats have always been treated like our children. We always share any cat friendly foods we may have, with our babies 🩷.

Well, they all get around him, and he splits his plate, five ways. This is every meal.

These dogs are happy!

We're both, natural parents. This is what you do when you're old!

Growing up, my dear Dad would take us kids on a scenic 2hr hike which ended with many steps, leading to the ocean.

When we got to the end, we would race to the water and body surf. We loved this so much that we would get Dad to take us on cold rainy days..lol. We would walk briskly/run so by the end, despite cloudy weather we were all still hot. The waves at this beach were spectacular!

On the way back Dad would buy us a double cone icecream. My fave was boysenberry & rum and raisin 😋.

So we got plenty of exercise and a yummy treat. Great times! ❤️

I should add that my partner and some family members still engage in this tradition.  Us oldies never wish to do it on chilly days though 😄.
