Someone asks for advice or insight. You're pretty sure they won't like what you have to say. Do you speak anyway? Or do you play dumb or otherwise exit or avoid the conversation?

They asked, so I answer. In a nice way, with examples. I feel it’s important to be up front with them, since they are my friends.

i also usually look for ways they’re doing things right and try to highlight them

@elsa Well … it depends on how well I know the person and how receptive I feel they would be. Is it worth giving them advice you know they’ll discard? How have they reacted in the past? Am I just whistling in the wind?

In the end I think it has more to do with how good I’ll feel, personally, about telling them something they won’t want to hear. They’ll do what they want with it. They asked for advice, so the least I can do is give an honest opinion.

I speak up if I feel my input could help them avoid harm or danger.  I may be ignored or never hear from them again, but at least I know I tried.

Depends on who is asking. Unsolicited advice. NO. Asked for? Depends on who it is. My kid, yes. The internet? I don't personally know them? Probably not today. I used to but people don't really want to hear it anyway.
