I don't know about the on-off tendency. I am rather yin, and I was no different in this relationship. That is, he was the one who did the chasing. I may have seemed distant to him because of this. Both of us have some Venus-Uranus in our charts (me with the semisquare and he with Uranus in Libra), so this wasn't a completely foreign influence. I can say even though I loved him that I very much wanted to keep my independence, in some way.

I've had Venus opp Uranus in long distance relationships and affairs.  Short lived.
