My husband is named after his Godfather who was a dictator. His Southern grandparents have never called him by his name. They call him by his middle name. This is true of his cousins on that side, to this day.
He has also had a nickname from birth. It's the same as his Godfather's nickname, with a slight modification. No one calls him by his given name, except me. His mother uses it when pissed off. It's hard for people to say, so he let's them off the hook.
I have more nicknames than I can recall.
E, Elsie, Els, Slick, Bean, Peanut, P, Peewee, for starters.
I always liked having a nicknames, and when, John Hiatt, mentioned nicknames in one of his songs, it explained this to me.
My nickname has been Elz for years, just my name shortened. I was called Elly-welly as a kid, and Beelzebub briefly as a young adult (don't know why, I've never been bad!) but there's not much else you can do with my name!
I’ve never had any nickname 🫤.
My nickname is a derivation of my real name. As a child, I was the only one of five with a nickname.
