The OA...I just think there is a lot of layered interest... the oa is a great actress, the man holding them is also superior.

But for example, we are all in a cage like that, on the internet.  We're observed and captive.  Developing relationships is your only hope.

@elsa That's interesting - I saw this show a while back and didn't make that connection.

@elsa I really liked the dance. It's such a weird, weird show in a way that is very enjoyable to watch. You are making me want to go back and watch it again to see what I missed!

@dolce the easy way he duped her into the situation. There's something to learn from that.

The guitar player - the way she was targeted? Noted! And we're all targeted and very, very easily duped.

It's much worse, really. Duped and unaware.

And it's even worse than that. We admire those who dupe us and stand in line to give them money, and even boast about the money we gave them.

Is this not a marvel... or as they say, "Are you not entertained?"

Your brain is like a sock turned inside out... a few times. Now what?

Well, someone can tell you, but you won't believe them. This is what I'm talking about, some people will believe you. Like my plumber. So some country hick, you know?

So the older woman in the show. She's not cutting edge but she has senses.

They explain this in the show... NDE. But what is the commonality, in the real world?

@elsa I can't remember the show that well so it's possible I'm answering a different question here, but the commonality in the real world for those who don't tend to get tricked would be "background people." Your examples: a country hick, the older woman - they are not looking for special attention, they don't care. They're humble for whatever reason and grounded in reality. Like "get out of here with your BS, I don't have time for this crap." Maybe they've just seen too much to care. But they have an instinct, natural or learned. Young people who can see through it are probably rare. The trick players have an instinct for them too most of the time and really don't like them (I was that person for a friend of mine and the guy refused to make eye contact with me!).

I can't remember on the show how they all got duped, but I always think - pride or insecurity? Or both? It's so easy to flatter people and get them to do what you want. Back in my 20s I could easily have been abducted for need of approval and attention, but also the need to feel connected. People fantasize about being swept off their feet and it is often just a trick by some charismatic person - happened to me when I was 19. I'm glad he didn't take me to some remote underground cage room lol.

@dolce if I couldn't see through it, I'd be dead. I have two offers to "model", as a homeless 15 year old . $1000 for four hour photo shoot? I'm so pretty, see? They pitch you.

These days, a girl would know she may get hurt and go anyway!

I've always had the skin crawl thing, which I would never cross.

@elsa that's horrible and scary. With how some girls are on social media, it's got to be easy to target them in real life 😩

The guy from when I was 19 was just a bad boyfriend so that is lucky in comparison to what happens to a lot of girls. I've only been in a situation once where I had my internal alarm loudly go off and I had to hide from a guy in a windowless van.

Started season two. This show is magnificent.  I like how the shots are framed, and I like the story, but it's the vibe overall. This show does, as most shows, try.

@elsa You roped me in. I’ve watched the first 7 of the 8 episodes of the first season.  I will catch the last one later today. I’m enjoying the story telling aspect. It’s compelling.

The Hap character is played by a seasoned actor, Jason Issacs. He’s a Gemini. I had to look him up because I recognized him. He doesn’t always play psychopaths.

Entrapment can be easy.  I turned down a “modeling job” for a potential $10,000 Playboy spread back in the 70s. When I was young. Guy gave me the creeps.

My barber was abducted at age 15. Drugged by pills added to a soda offered on a hot day.  Rescued by abductor’s family. FBI called in, etc. Also possibly in the 70s.

@sue-ellen the ending of the first season is fantastic. Just... it's about courage and such. Answering a call, as well all should do.

The opener of the second season is fantastic.  Very strong start, without resorting to cheap tricks.

It's an incredibly original show, demonstrating something rare.  Ignoring the noise and all things superficial. What are you really designed to do?

I am glad you were able to dodge the bad guys. Even that takes WILL which I think people have set aside for the most part.

We watch and criticize others... no one is designed for this purpose, outside of a truly gifted movie critic, that is.

edit to add.. the blonde curly headed dude is an interesting character.  Will he redeem himself, fully?

@elsa I really liked it.
The show has given me a lot to think about. Good fiction does.

@sue-ellen I was wondering about curly blonde dude's character, all the way through. Very satisfying.

@elsa Did you notice the name changes in the last few minutes? Hap became Jason Issacs and Nina became Brit. These are the stage names of the actors who played the characters. That really messed with my mind.
I also found out Brit was one of the creators & writers the show. Brit has created several pieces as she didn’t like typical acting roles she was offered.
I hope I didn’t spoil it for anyone.

@sue-ellen I did not notice that, thanks.

I was fixed on the blonde curly dude, the whole show, just wanting to know why he was included in the story... what was his storyline.

I hoped it would be resolved and expected it but also thought it would be addressed in a stupid, non-real way. Instead, the knocked the ball from the part. I laughed out loud with glee.

It is fiction, but as a fellow storyteller, a good storyteller, I know certain data points can't just be left hanging. He was the character that irked me, throughout.

@elsa Yes, curly had the last line of the series. I liked what he said.

Has anyone watched, Billion Dollar Code? I haven't but I see it it really turning people on google.

I turned on Google, twenty years ago, when it drove a car past my house, steeling the contents of my hard drive.
