Elsa, did you have any allergies during your life? If so, this is very common to happen. I have been allergic to pollen, roots, grass, and flowers since I was 8 years old, and when I turned 30 I developed food allergies. If you have been allergic to some other things, there is more than a 50% chance you will develop food allergies later in your life. Allergies are always connected with some kind of trauma you've been through, my doctors always said it's a psychosomatic illness. So, even if you haven't had allergies before, it could happen. With a lot of stress and some traumatic happening, your body is responding. Mine was responding to the cream cheese I always loved to eat, but one day, my body was developing a huge reaction. Luckily I didn't choke, but I was throwing up before this huge rash happened all over my body. I was suggested to make a journal and write down what I was eating, and that's some of the ways how to discover what your body doesn't tolerate anymore.

@dori I've never had food allergies, until I realized sorbitol was causing a problem, about two years. To be honest, I don't really buy the idea that all allergies are due to trauma, just based on the fact I am a super traumatized person; getting old and this is new.

I think it's more likely, it's the addictive, chemical compounds in food; preservatives, possibly.

See, I cook 99% of our meals, using simple ingredients for the most part.  This was a cake, that gets shipped all over the country. I wish I could find the ingredients!

I'm asking here, but my takeaway so far, is I can't deal with the sugar alcohols, for sure. Outside of that, have caution around super processed food, or avoid it all together.

Basically, turning into, Henry.  But I would like to know what's in that cake, because if I did, I would avoid it like the plague.

I have a couple of adult friends that have developed food allergies later in life. I attribute it to vaccinations. So many children have food allergies now.

The spiritual cause is interesting. I'll have to mull that.  What I do know is I'm allergic to sorbital.... also Mannion.

Then, last night, I ate some of that Porto's berry cake. DELICIOUS! But my throat swelled and my esophagus contacted, almost immediately.  I was shocked.

The affect lasted two hours. I actually was scared. Like I couldn't breathe well?

I looked for ingredients in the cake. I don't know why it would have fake sugar, but maybe? Couldn't find them.

I did not intend to eat more cake but took 1/2 bite when serving my husband.  Definite reaction. I just can't believe this.

Luckily,  I have never looked sideways a people with food allergies or I would feel pretty bad right now. It's really bad and no clue what the trigger is. Four other people ate cake. No issues.

So much for having a cast iron stomach. Right now, I wonder I'd I'm being treated for lupus when I really have allergies.  It's insane.

As for vaccines, I had the shingles Vax and also pneumonia Vax. This was 8 years ago or so. I don't know.

I want to know what was in the cake too. It is worth a call to them. You had a real reaction for goodness sake. The food industry know this. I believe they will tell you.

I have food allergies, changing over the years.

Your general level of health is stressed right now, your man is sick!

Benadryl is the medicine to counteract that symptom.

I've developed an allergy to chicken eggs. Unbearable symptoms.

That keeps me out of all kinds of processed foods. No cookies, cakes or cupcakes for me. Many gluten free foods I love but eggs are used to compensate for the lack of gluten! But I have learned I DO tolerate duck eggs, which is a whole new level.

I made lemon tarts and shrimp/crab cakes yesterday.
