“The most commonplace crime is often the most mysterious because it presents no new or special features from which deductions may be drawn.”
–Sherlock Holmes, in “A Study in Scarlet”
Scorpio energy is depth energy, beneath the surface energy. Neptunian intuition is airy-fairy and is a result of receiving input from hidden realms, facts that are not in evidence, so to speak. Plutonian intuition is a different thing altogether. This type of intuition, while it may seem to come from hidden sources, those sources are more concrete. Plutonian intuition relies on accumulated facts strung together, facts from the past put together with facts from the present, pieces of the puzzle.
We have all accumulated facts and applied them without thinking much about it. A guy just got out of a big, brown truck, walked up my driveway to my front door and rang my doorbell while holding a box. What’s he going to do now? Is he going to hit me in the face with that box? Drop to his knee and start singing “Mammy”? We all make predictions with fact-based intuition; we make them ALL THE TIME. Where Scorpio has a leg up in this regard is that being in tune with the shadow it is less likely to subconsciously ignore observations that don’t fit the overall picture. What if the guy in brown has a big Bowie knife on his belt? What if he’s holding one hand behind his back the whole walk up the drive? Do you consciously let these details come to mind? Does it spark your interest?
For one thing, did you notice I just in the last few sentences said he was dressed in brown? I didn’t originally. I said his truck was brown so many will assume it’s UPS and the guy is dressed in brown. These are predictions we all tend to make. However, those with more Scorpio energy than average will tend to be more conscious and discerning about both the facts that are presented and the ways in which they put them together. Scorpio is less likely to dismiss pieces that don’t fit the bigger picture because they’re not trying to make the pieces fit the picture on the box. They’re taking the pieces they’re given, even the ones that don’t register consciously, and making their own picture.
Everyone has Scorpio. Even if you don’t have planets in Scorpio or the 8th house, you have a Pluto and it lives somewhere in your chart; you also have Scorpio in a house, on a house cusp. Everyone’s a detective to some extent, or has the ability to be, it just depends on what area we’re talking about. We can all heighten our Plutonian intuition and our ability to predict events by taking a lesson from this energy. Notice the details and don’t dismiss them. They may be very important.
How are you a detective? Where is your Scorpio/Pluto?
Based on your post, I would think that a Scorpio Asc with Neptune conjunct within 3 degrees would have quite an interesting intuition – I have a blended combo of both the Neptune and Plutonian – all melded together. I receive input from hidden realms that are very deep. 🙂
I adore this post. I’ve got the sun, merc, venus and pluto in Scorpio in my 10th house.
I work at a DV shelter, so yeah, it’s all there.
I hate denial. It’s something that has been growing all my life, and at the age of 25 I’ve finally come to a place where I can verbally say, “Cut it out with the denial, please.” to someone who is bothering the hell out of me with their total refusal to admit the truth. But their purpose in even coming to me is to have the truth pointed out, so it’s healthy that I find a way to say this. It’s funny that most people don’t actually want the truth told to them, they just want to be told they’re not admitting the truth. People seek truth for themselves. Learning this has really helped me because in the past I would just say “He’s cheating on you” or “You’re being a bad mother” or “You’re a drug addict” and that always went badly. Now all I say is, “Stop lying to yourself” and they figure out the rest.
so true! we’d all be so much more effective if we were able to embrace WHAT WE ALREADY KNOW!
and queenfluff, having both prominent is fantastic! particularly if one is aware of it. I think sometimes having both in confusing for some. when one type is validated it can make you doubt the other. it’s nice to know they come from separate sources, though they do often intersect in practice!
Pluto in virgo sextile jupiter in scorpio. From the 6th to the 8th. I like forensic files. 🙂 It’s just medical enough —— ooooooohhhhhh….Mystery Diagnosis!!!! Love!!! And Dr G. Medical examiner!!!!!! Damn! miss cable. Ohhh, and the show Dead Like Me. (Showtime). Cancelled. 🙁
Thanks Satori! Yeah, it is an interesting mix but often confusing – but basically I like it because I seem to be able to make good use of it (even though I think it confuses others because it is my 1st house after all)! Forgot to mention – my Pluto is in Virgo in my 10th conjunct my Virgo Sun both at 24 degrees (19 minutes – almost cazimi). I do LOVE researching things I am interested in – I can research for hours guided by my Virgo love for details and my hunches to want to find an answer – love to figure things out and solve dilemmas! The Pluto and my Sun are also sextile to my Scorpio ASC and Neptune that are conjunct. They all seem to connect together – my Neptunian and Plutonian energies! 🙂 I like to see this as a good thing basically because I know that Neptune and Pluto share some commonality over which things which they rule.
oh man, Morgan, I sure do miss “Dead Like Me”, palpably.
Scorpio covers most of my 9th house but actually is on the cusp of my tenth holding Juno, Mercury and BML. Plus, I have a pile up (including Pluto) in my 8th house. Natal Pluto is conj Mars, more tightly conj Pallas (less than a degree) and in a tight square with Jupiter in Cap (less than a degree).
I was just thinking today why the heck I’m not a detective. Or a teacher..lol
Pluto rules my moon. My moon is in the 6th house conjunct 7th cusp. Moon is sextile my pluto in libra which is square my jupiter in the 8th and opposing my chart ruler merc.
Just over the 7th cusp is neptune which rules my sun. Neptune is trine my chart ruler mercury as well…
I pushed away my intuition to a major degree for almost 20 years.. Because if I really saw what was happening or about to it led to conflict… so I ignored I chose the negetive application of this energy…
Then Pluto entered my 8ths house and started aspecting everything that I had aspecting natally…
Im learning to accept my intuition. When I first started this process it was painfull and a bit over whelming and it ment dredging up “stuff” that had been covered for about 20 years… but I think Neptune and pluto can work really well together.. one to catch a glimpse of where to go in the dredging up and one to float me through ..
and both in aspect my chart ruler I have to remember not to over think the intuitive glances..
Yep. Pluto in Scorpio in the 3rd. I have Pisces Mercury so I might not (definitey won’t) remember exactly what you said but I will remember exacly how you stood when you said it, your inflection, your eye movements and your micro-expressions.
I LOVED Dead Like Me, just finished the series about two weeks ago. I loved the whole series but especially how Rube ordered food. “Bring my friend an oatmeal cookies and warm up it up for her.” “You only have them warm it up if I’m in trouble.”
@Morgan “I like forensic files. It’s just medical enough —— ooooooohhhhhh….Mystery Diagnosis!!!! Love!!!”
Me too! And I’ve researched medicine enough to often guess the Mystery Diagnosis before they’re even 10 minutes into the show!
The ultimate Scorpio detective is the diagnostic expert Dr. Gregory House on House MD. I could write an essay on how he completely embodies the Scorpio qualities.
I’m Scorpio Moon (opp Saturn) with Venus in Leo in the 8th. Pluto conjunct Virgo Sun.
Also Vincent D’onofrio in the old seasons of Criminal Intent. WOOF!
Me too – we must be around the same age. Actually I have venus, neptune, dark moon lilith all conjunct in 12th just 2 degrees off Scorp asc, and also have Pluto-Ceres conjunct in 10th house Virgo, exactly square my Sagg Sun, along with stationary Uranus at 5 degrees Virgo exactly opposite Jupiter-Chiron at 5 degrees Pisces.
I’m not sure whether it is Neptune or Pluto, but beyond knowing stuff I have no way of knowing from observation or past events, I manifest physical symptoms/mood changes when something is going on somewhere that is going to have a heavy impact on me or others I love – I don’t find out what happened til later, but my body knows something is up, sometimes in a very literal way that mirrors an injury or sudden illness someone had. Or suddenly I might feel a chill up my spine/sudden anger/nausea that doesn’t make sense and find someone coming strongly into my head, and later discover that they lied about me or betrayed me or something like that. or I see it in advance in a dream.
woops, that reply was meant to be for queenfluff – pushed wrong reply button
pluto at 26 libra conjuunct asc and jupiter at 10 scorpio in the first. oh yea! 😉
Hi Fiona! I am 42. You? For me, since I have that Neptune/Pluto in the 1st – my experiences are more like that quote from the Matrix by Morpheus
“What you know you can’t explain, but you feel it. You’ve felt it your entire life, that there’s something wrong with the world. You don’t know what it is, but it’s there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.”
Like my Neptune knows their is a “veil” over our perceived “reality” hiding something – I am never sure exactly what it is but it seems surreal to me, like something is off in the world. I know there is “something” behind that veil because I can feel it – like I get message about it. I especially feel this when outside in nature – the feeling isn’t as clear in building (probably because their is a blockage but it is kind of a nice safe relief at time because other wise I think about it too much). My Scorpio asc sees through all the BS – so I see the energies as helping each out. I recognize (now) that they are different because I have learned enough about them to know that are separate but in harmony. Well, works for me anyhow. Both energies are still waiting for that veil to drop someday (and than my Virgo can say “I KNEW it! 😉 )
Anyhow, don’t know if that makes sense but that is what is it for me. I think the Plutonian intuition is a bit clearer and stronger than the Neptunian one that might be the difference. Neptune intuition, like Satori said, is “airy fairy” – is always right for me but the glimpses and feelings don’t come on as strong – that is where the Pluto comes in to strengthen it. 🙂
WoW. What a great post and really great comments!
I’ve got a Scorpio Moon conjunct Neptune/AC, sextile my natal Pluto, and trine my Pisces stellium. LOL…
I like the distinction that Queenfluff commented about between Neptunian/Plutonian intuition. For me… I can feel the edge with the Plutonian, where the Neptunian will sometimes require some patience for the veil to drop and to see things a little more clearly. It requires a bit of faith… responding to the ‘hit’ even if you don’t know ‘why’.
As far as your question Satori… How are you a detective? Where is your Scorpio/Pluto?
Man… that’s a toughy. My Scorpio is in the 1st house, my Pluto in the 10th. So, I guess, no matter how my detective work goes- it won’t be private. It will be in your face and right out there for the world to see.
Feel the intensity of the stronger pulls and pushes presented to me ~ just one aspect of my Cancer NN in the 8th 🙂
I’m exactly like that, I have mercury square Pluto.
Scorpio rules my 5th house, 8th is in aquarius and pluto is in aspect to my sun, moon, venus, merc, mars, jupiter, neptune, asc/dsc, mc/ic & NN/SN. Plus I have a lot of water in my chart, so when I get a ‘gut’ feeling about something, I’ve learned it’s best not to dismiss it. I’d also make a pretty keen detective, or at least I like to think so 🙂
Angie
Hey Satori! It’s on Hulu. Both seasons. Drool. 🙂 George is so funny!! Dark Comedy is the best!
As soon as I get the first and last name of anyone I’m considering dating, I do a background check. DUIs, how long his divorce has been going on, domestic violence history, and has he been honest about the timeline, etc.? Also, his year of birth is shown – has he shaved off a few years? Mars retro in Scorpio, like yours. I know more than they would ever guess by the time the iced tea hits the table. If they’re smart, they’ll not whitewash it, and that’s IF they made it this far. I have a kid to protect, as well as myself. 🙂
Cool post. I’m a Pisces Sun but I have an almost exact Mercury-8th house Pluto trine (and 8th house stellium with moon, mars, pallas, saturn and pluto) along with Jupiter in Scorpio.
I’m BIG on intuition and detection and sometimes wish I could switch off, but my mind won’t let me, which is great in some instances but exhausting in others, when you wanna just “lighten up” and have a good time 😉 At least the 8th house/Pluto stuff allows me to trust my Neptunian hunches, lol.
And I once read a Retrograde Pluto is supposedly more intense and psychological, which I have (so again the relentless mind, akh):

Anyone else with a Rx Pluto feel that way?
Yes! My Leo Pluto Rx is conjunct Vertex in 7th, trines my Aries Sun in 3rd, sextiles my Gemini Jupiter in 5th and Libra Neptune in 9th.
Yeah, another Pluto in Virgo here, conjunct Venus and Mercury and sextile to Neptune/Jupiter in Scorpio! I have to do a lot of research for my work, which is writing in the healthcare field.
I have a Scorpio AC one degree off a fixed star called Khambalia, associated with deep research of any kind, police investigation, espionage, esoteric subjects, secret life and spiritual life. This trines Saturn in Pisces. Add the Neptune-Moon conjunction in Scorp, with Neptune sextile to Mars/Pluto/Uranus in Virgo, 10th hs, you get a pretty good research tool. Add Pluto aspecting almost everything, including my 8th hs NN and Vertex, you get more information than can comfortably be sorted and processed. Saturn on the angles helps keep the act together, as does the Saturn sq Moon, which prevents me from being distracted by such mundane things as love, sex and happiness. Yes, it’s a powerful chart for deep research of any kind, but not for a normal life under normal circumstances. Employment wise, the 10th would be good for a self employed guy, who doesn’t mind going bankrupt every couple of years or so. For love, the Saturn aspects and the Venus sq Mars/Pluto/Uranus do not bode well. To break free, I could use Pluto, Uranus or maybe Jupiter. Unfortunately, they’re all retro.
My Scorpio Saturn is conjunct, to the minute, the fixed star Khambalia, close to MC. Addicted to digging for info, like a dog with a bone! Regret not making a real career of it in some way.
BUT — just occurred to me that I so often don’t immediately notice the obvious, perhaps because that natal Saturn is Rx?
Thanks Satori! Great site..
thanks! I think so too! Elsa and her team put a LOT of work into it!
Like Queenfluff, I have Scorpio ASC with Neptune 3 degrees away also in Scorpio. This placement allows me to feel that I just know things even if the facts don’t add up. With Pluto in my 10th sextile to Neptune/Asc in Scorpio I have used these detective skills in my career. Wouldn’t give this talent up for the life of me it has served me well.
Wow Patrice -we are like astro twins as far as the neptune/pluto stuff goes! I have that Pluto 10th sextile too. 🙂 I agree – I do NOT want to lose this talent. I love it! Anytime, I have gone against my first instinct – I have been wrong. I always trust it. It is smarter than me. 🙂 I should be in a “detective” type of career myself – probably research – I have been in “troubleshooting” type of careers – I actually love doing them!
I have pluto and mercury in Scorpio in the 3rd and here is a description:
With Pluto and Mercury in Scorpio in the 3rd, you have a strong drive to get to the bottom of things and have the sort of mind that is unflinching in the face of complexity. You actually gravitate towards complexity and are able to squeeze a one-liner, drenched in wisdom and blunt humor, from situations others may find impenetrable. Pluto gives a compulsive quality to the mind which loves to get to the roots of problems and can appreciate taboo material simply because they want to understand the mechanics behind it. They are fascinated by their immediate world and need not go far to find a puzzle to solve or a labyrinth to explore.
They are driven to figure things out in one way or another and may intimidate those who would rather skim the surface of the matter. Their thoughts are powerful, even palpable. Writing, teaching and debate may be good outlets for someone with this placement. This mind can be punishing if it attempts to avoid its higher calling as a way-shower for others. It would greatly behoove the individual to apply their wattage toward something constructive, maybe healing. The depth that comes with Pluto and the levity and wit that accompanies Mercury can serve to tell truths that may otherwise go unsaid. They simply tell it like it is – the good, the bad and the ugly.
Definitely me, 100% about the complexity but then I also have Saturn right there with them really giving me some BIG communication problems (I HATE THAT PLANET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) so I don’t have much of a wit or I do, it’s just a slow one. Other than that everything else is very very true and I consider these my absolute best qualities.
This is sooo fantastically rich, for those of us experiencing transits to Pluto, right now, and/or Pluto transiting significant parts of our natal charts. ::awesome::
Jannevellamo said, “I have a Scorpio AC one degree off a fixed star called Khambalia, associated with deep research of any kind, police investigation, espionage, esoteric subjects, secret life and spiritual life.”
Thank you for this tidbit! I just looked up Khambalia, and found it conjuncts my Scorpio Saturn near MC to the minute! Certainly explains why I’m so hooked on researching!
Scorpio occupies all of my eleventh house. (Zero degree asc). I have four planets there. I notice a lot. It’s not conscious though. I just remember details. Ugh. I haven’t discovered a productive use for this skill:) Someday I’ll write a book or something:)
